Biography 

BRIEF HISTORY: 

Sharon was born in Nelson, New Zealand and signed to CBS Records, (now SONY MUSIC) as a singer/songwriter in 1978.  After enjoying major success in her home territory her contract was transferred to Australia in order to further her career.  Her debut in Oz was as opening act for the legendary BOZ SCAGGS in every major city and from then on there were many highlights. 

HIGHLIGHTS: 

Numerous accolades as “Most Popular Female Artist”/”Queen of Pop” in both New Zealand and Australia including an APRA SILVER SCROLL for songwriting and BEST FEMALE PERFORMANCE IN A VIDEO...gold and platinum record sales and albums recorded with prominent and inspiring producers.  Some of these include John Boylan (Linda Ronstadt), Peter McIan (Men at Work), Alan Mansfield (Dragon). During these sessions many noted guests lent their talents such as Don Henley, Timothy B Schmit, Randy Meisner, Don Felder (all from the EAGLES), Bill Payne, Karla Bonoff and Tom Scott to name a few.  Other highlights include performing her songs at both the Seoul and Tokyo song Festivals. 

As a songwriter alone, her songs have been recorded by Dragon, Jimmy Barnes, Robert Palmer and various artists in Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, Canada and the USA.  Her most recent co-write was with ROBERT PALMER and ALAN MANSFIELD on what was sadly to be Robert’s last single, “TRUE LOVE”. Performance highlights include sharing the stage with Elton John, Robert Palmer, Jimmy Barnes, Angry Anderson, Marc Hunter, Mark Williams, Jon Stevens, Leo Sayer, Paul Young and Tony Hadley. 

In 2017 Sharon was honored with the Legacy Award at the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards.

“THIS HEART...THIS SONG”, “SHARON O’NEILL” titled “WORDS” in Australia, “MAYBE”, “SMASH PALACE”, (soundtrack to the movie of the same name), “FOREIGN AFFAIRS”, “DANCED IN THE FIRE”, “EDGE OF WINTER”....also the first single and various tracks on the ABC 0-9 collection of children’s albums, songs on the soundtracks for the movies “STREET HERO”, “COOLANGATTA GOLD” and for the television series’ “SWEET AND SOUR” (penning the Top Ten single of the same name), “DANCING DAZE” and “JUST FRIENDS”....... 

Sony Music have recently released a 4-CD package, (four of the above works) and in April 2014...”WORDS the Very best of SHARON O’NEILL” which debuted Top Ten nationally. 

You can catch her back in New Zealand often....in the past as part of ‘When The Cat’s 
Away’ and more recently with Debbie Harwood’s project ‘Give It a Girl’ alongside Debbie, 
Shona Laing, Annie Crummer and Margaret Urlich. 

2017 saw 2 very successful shows at  Nelson’s Boathouse with a show called ‘Home Again’ featuring Sharon in an intimate setting, talking about the history and meaning behind her songs and performing them  with an awesome 6 piece band. Fans came from throughout Australia and New Zealand for what was two very special evenings. 

Sharon has also recently performed on te the Empire Touring Variety  shows in Australia with other 80s pop and rock icons.
